San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua

San Juan del Sur started off life as a quaint little fishing village on the Pacific Coast of Nicaragua. Although the town is developing, it is evolving around the historical and brightly painted original wooden houses making sure that the place maintains it's charm.San Juan del Sur is the most popular beach in Nicaragua and the town is set in a lush valley with a river running down to the beach. The beach itself is a long, wide stretch of fine dark sand nestled between two cliffs, with generally calm and shallow waters.San Juan del Sur is home to one of the tallest Jesus statues in the world, behind Christ, The Redeemer in Rio. The statue of Jesus is located on the bluff at the top of the Pacific Marlin. Looking down, blessing the fisherman. The ship offered a hike up to the statue, which we really thought about doing to get a better picture. But after a long day of touring we gave up on that idea.On our bus ride to the Mighty Masaya Volcano we saw many cool things. Black dots in tree = Monkeys. Those are some huge mangos! This is one of the most interesting things I learned on this trip. Any guesses on what this fruit is?It's a cashew nut! The red part of the fruit is the stem that hangs on the tree. And the part above has the cashew nut in it.We had the chance to look into this crater where plumes of steam billow endlessly from fumaroles. Jontue and Me looking into the Volcano. Our tour than took us to to a local market with this amazing view of this beautiful lagoon.
We enjoyed lunch and some local music in this area. Here we were able to get a good shot of both volcano's in Lake Nicaragua.Once back to the pier I as happy to be on a ship with 95 passengers. Never any lines like this on our ship. Our day in Nicaragua ended with a local Folkloric dance group sharing some of their traditional dances.
